Linda Lau: Today was a very special day.
Clay Drinko: I earned more allowance than I ever earned before.
Rae Mansfield: And so I decided to take my house hippopotamus to the laundromat with me.
Linda Lau: At the laundromat I met a man.
Clay Drinko: The man’s name was Tony and he was eyeing my house hippopotamus very suspiciously.
Rae Mansfield: He said he’d always been looking for a house hippopotamus.
Linda Lau: So I told him, “Maybe you could borrow mine for the day.”
Clay Drinko: And he said, “that sounds like a good deal. Um, could I give you some money to hold as…and then the guy couldn’t think of the word, but like I knew what he meant.
Linda Lau: I said, “Sure why don’t you give me the coins that you have for your laundry to hold in exchange for my house hippopotamus today.”
Rae Mansfield: “I’ll also hold all of your laundry because I know you’ll want to come back for those sparkly purple pants.”
Clay Drinko: And so off he went with my house slash hippopotamus and I felt a little sad and concerned to see them walk out the laundromat door.
Linda Lau: So I took my mind off of it by doing his laundry for him.
Rae Mansfield: I think I put the dryer up too high.
Clay Drinko: Because before you knew it his sparkly garments were teeny teeny weeny.
Linda Lau: He came back an hour later with my house slash hippopotamus and saw what had happened.
Clay Drinko: He was furious and I could tell he was really disappointed because my Dad has that same face sometimes.
Rae Mansfield: My house hippopotamus looked disappointed, too, because he’d been promised cupcakes and pancakes and didn’t get to have the cupcakes or the pancakes because the man was worried about his sparkly purple pants.
Linda Lau: And then, a little Chihuahua dog came in.
Clay Drinko: The Chihuahua dog started barking and barking and barking and we all tried to calm the Chihuahua down and…
Rae Mansfield: Then we realized that the sparkly purple pants were exactly the right size for the Chihuahua.
Clay Drinko: So we put the sparkly pants on the Chihuahua and took a step back to really take it in.
Linda Lau: The Chihuahua looked perfect in the sparkly pants so we took out our phones to take a picture with everybody.
Clay Drinko: And that’s when the man said, “This has been the most memorable day I’ve had such a long time. Thank you for being so kind and generous.”
Linda Lau: The End.
