This play was written with the following prompts: battery factory, tourist, and local artist.
(TANYA is working on a sculpture in the middle of the abandoned battery factory. JEREMY enters.)
JEREMY: Whoa. Cool!
TANYA: Excuse me.
JEREMY: This place is far out.
TANYA: Hello. What are you doing here?
JEREMY: I came all the way from Wisconsin.
TANYA: This is a private studio. You can’t just walk up into my workspace.
JEREMY: It says, “Open Studios on the door.”
TANYA: That’s on the first Saturday of the month. Is this the first Saturday of the month?
JEREMY: Yes.
TANYA: Oh. My bad. Welcome to my studio.
JEREMY: Hi, so what do you do here?
TANYA: I create postindustrial sculptures to comment on the environmental impact of manufacturing.
JEREMY: How’d you get all the lithium, mercury, and other toxic stuff out of here?
TANYA: I didn’t.
THE END.
