Have you ever wanted to perform in a play, but do not like memorizing lines? Try Reader’s Theatre! In this course, we will focus on ensemble building, script analysis, voice, and character development. We will read monologues, short plays, and scenes from longer works.
About the Instructor: This course is facilitated by Linda Lau, PhD. Linda has taught theatre for older adults at Santa Rosa Junior College in California. She enjoys using theatre to help people build self-awareness, improve their communication skills, and be more playful and creative. She is co-author of Theatre for Lifelong Learning: A Handbook for Instructors, Older Adults, Communities, and Artists. For more information about the book, click here.
What to Expect:
- Participation: All students are encouraged to participate. If you are not sure about joining, you are welcome to observe a class.
- Equipment: This class requires the use of your video and microphone. To help you see others during group activities, it is recommended that you use a device with a larger screen. (Note: Recordings and photographs are prohibited!)
- Activities: There will be a mix of physical and verbal exercises. Most of the physical exercises will involve using the upper part of your body. If accommodations are needed, please let the instructor know ahead of time.

Looking for a way to improve your brain health and reduce stress? Try theatre improv! This class will exercise your brain in a fun and engaging environment. Through group activities and discussions, you will share your perspectives with others, develop deep concentration and observation skills, and explore your imagination. Drop-ins are welcome and no experience is required!
